Great Raleigh Road Race

Great Raleigh Road Race

I just signed up for the 4 mile Great Raleigh Road Race on 4 July. I will be running for BDO and wearing our T-Shirt. Hopefully, through this run we can convince more people to stay away from debt.

Gears and Cheers Bike Race Report

Before the Gears & Cheers 09

On Saturday, May 30th, 2009, Gaby, the kids, and I completed the Gears and Cheers 09. We entered the 25 mile bike race to help raise awareness of the evils of overspending and debt and to raise money for BDO through its TEAM BDO efforts. With our good attitudes and our BDO T-Shirts, we thought we were ready to do this race.

12 mile rest stop

It was a great day to go bicycling. Unfortunately, due to our vacation schedules, we actually did not train for this race. We felt bad about that, so the day before we rode for 8 miles and thought we were ready to bike the 25 miles the next day. Well, actually, waking up and doing 25 miles without any training is very tough to do. I rode the first 12.5 miles with the kids and then Gaby rode with them the second half. It took every ounce of strength and patience to get through the course with 2 kids in tow. Fortunately, during the second half we had an experienced volunteer to help give encouragement to us as we struggled to peddle and to take care of the kids who also were not prepared for such a long trek inside a bike trailer.

After the Gears & Cheers 09

Fortunately, we made it. By leaning on each other's strengths, praying, and the volunteer, we made the 25 mile bike ride. We enjoyed the fresh water and after race food they provided for us to replenish all the nutrients we lost.

Looking back there were so many mistakes we made by being novice bicyclists. Too many to count. However, it did not discourage us from trying our hand at bicycling again. We had a great time together and created some good memories.

Unfortunately, we did this race at a loss to BDO. We did not have any sponsors for this race to help raise any money for BDO's Educational Ad project. So, if you would like to make a delayed donation, please do so by clicking here.

Sponsor one mile of our bike ride

Gears and Cheers

On May 30th, Gaby and I will wear our Team BDO shirts and race with our two kids in tow in the Gears and Cheers Bike Race. Gaby and I will be riding 25 miles in order to raise money for BeatingDebt.org and to help spread the word about the dangers of overspending and debt.

Will you sponsor a dollar a mile of our bike ride?

This activity is in coordination with our Team BDO effort. All proceeds will benefit our Educational Ads project.

Great PFT Score

Well, the Lord blessed. I was able to run very fast and tied my PR with a 19:25 3-mile run! The Lord also blessed with 100 crunches and the maximum 20 pullups. So, my score was very good, which helps me justify to those above why I am working independent duty. PTL! Well, on to some more slow workouts with some variety until it is time to start really training for the marathon. Thanks for your prayers!

Final Run before PFT

Today, is supposed to rain. That is not cool, because today will be my last run before the physical fitness test. I am going to stay motivated and run hard. Tomorrow, I will take a day of rest and then the next morning get up and do my best. I am praying the Lord blesses. I will write again on Wednesday to let you know how I did.

Hey, if you are not doing anything on Wednesday, join me here.

Sick Days

Sorry, it has been awhile since I posted last. I have been sick/allergic to the new season. It has hit me really hard. I've still been trying to run a little to get ready for my physical fitness test, but it has been hard. I am concerned that my per mile time has not decreased and I only have 10 more days to get ready. I don't know if it is a lack of effort or lack of energy from being sick, but it is no fun trying to fight bugs and build endurance.

But I know the Lord will take care of everything. I will keep you all posted as much as possible.

Rainy Run

Yesterday's run was in the rain. It was good though. I am feeling it today.

I looked around for some free marathon training schedules, but most of them are for 16 weeks of training. Since I am up to 32 weeks right now, I guess I have a lot of time to practice.

In the meantime, I have a physical fitness test coming up on April 15th. So, I am working on decreasing my time to about 20 minutes for a 3 mile run.

Ok back to running!
